The sonsof Amramwere Aaronand Moses.And Aaronwas setapartto sanctifyhim as mostholy,he and his sonsforever,to burnincensebeforethe LORD,to ministerto Him and to blessin His nameforever.
Now the divisionsof the descendantsof Aaron[were these]: the sonsof Aaron[were] Nadab,Abihu,Eleazarand Ithamar.
Thesewere their officesfor their ministrywhen [they] camein to the houseof the LORDaccording to the ordinance[given] to them throughAarontheir father,justas the LORDGodof Israelhad commandedhim.
Theseare those who servedwith their sons:From the sonsof the Kohathites[were] Hemanthe singer,the sonof Joel,the sonof Samuel,
the sonof Zuph,the sonof Elkanah,the sonof Mahath,the sonof Amasai,
"My sons,do not be negligentnow,for the LORDhas chosenyou to standbeforeHim, to ministerto Him, and to be His ministersand burnincense."
"Then bringnearto yourself Aaronyour brother,and his sonswith him, from amongthe sonsof Israel,to ministeras priestto Me-- Aaron,Nadaband Abihu,Eleazarand Ithamar,Aaron'ssons.
"Aaronshall burnfragrantincenseon it; he shall burnit every morningwhen he trimsthe lamps.
The sonsof Aaronthe priestshall putfireon the altarand arrangewoodon the fire.
Its entrails,however, and its legshe shall washwith water.And the priestshall offerup in smokeallof it on the altarfor a burntoffering,an offeringby fireof a soothingaromato the LORD.
"When he goesin to makeatonementin the holyplace, nooneshall be in the tentof meetinguntilhe comesout, that he may makeatonementfor himself and for his householdand for allthe assemblyof Israel.
"With his fingerhe shall sprinklesomeof the bloodon it seventimesand cleanseit, and from the impuritiesof the sonsof Israelconsecrateit.
Now therewas a certainmanfrom Ramathaim-zophimfrom the hillcountryof Ephraim,and his namewas Elkanahthe sonof Jeroham,the sonof Elihu,the sonof Tohu,the sonof Zuph,an Ephraimite.
