In the ninthyearof Hoshea,the kingof AssyriacapturedSamariaand carriedIsraelawayinto exileto Assyria,and settledthem in Halahand Habor,[on] the riverof Gozan,and in the citiesof the Medes.
These,recordedby name,camein the daysof Hezekiahkingof Judah,and attackedtheir tentsand the Meuniteswhowere foundthere,and destroyedthem utterlyto thisday,and livedin their place,becausethere was pasturetherefor their flocks.
They tookawaytheir cattle:their 50,000camels,250000sheep,2000donkeys;and 100,000men.
So the Godof Israelstirredup the spiritof Pul,kingof Assyria,even the spiritof Tilgath-pilneserkingof Assyria,and he carriedthem awayinto exile,namely the Reubenites,the Gaditesand the half-tribeof Manasseh,and broughtthem to Halah,Habor,Haraand to the riverof Gozan,to thisday.
[As for] Elkanah,the sonsof Elkanah[were] Zophaihis sonand Nahathhis son,
Godhelpedhim againstthe Philistines,and againstthe Arabianswho livedin Gur-baal,and the Meunites.
"With him is [only] an armof flesh,but with us is the LORDour Godto helpus and to fightour battles."And the peoplereliedon the wordsof Hezekiahkingof Judah.
Whatthenshall we sayto these things?IfGod[is] for us, who[is] againstus?
