Shemaiah,the sonof Nethanelthe scribe,from the Levites,recordedthem in the presenceof the king,the princes,Zadokthe priest,Ahimelechthe sonof Abiathar,and the headsof the fathers'[households] of the priestsand of the Levites;onefather'shouseholdtakenfor Eleazarand one takenfor Ithamar.
Elihorephand Ahijah,the sonsof Shisha[were] secretaries;Jehoshaphatthe sonof Ahilud[was] the recorder;
and Zadokthe sonof Ahituband Abimelechthe sonof Abiathar[were] priests,and Shavsha[was] secretary;
Thesewere the sonsof Leviaccording to their fathers'households,[even] the headsof the fathers'[households] of those of them who were counted,in the numberof namesby their census,doingthe workfor the serviceof the houseof the LORD,from twentyyearsoldand upward.
Thesealsocastlotsjustas their relativesthe sonsof Aaronin the presenceof Davidthe king,Zadok,Ahimelech,and the headsof the fathers'[households] of the priestsand of the Levites--the headof fathers'[households] as wellas those of his youngerbrother.
Now the firstlotcameout for Jehoiarib,the secondfor Jedaiah,
[They were] also overthe burdenbearers,and supervisedallthe workmenfrom jobto job;and [some] of the Levites[were] scribesand officialsand gatekeepers.
ThisEzrawentup from Babylon,and he was a scribeskilledin the lawof Moses,whichthe LORDGodof Israelhad given;and the kinggrantedhim allhe requestedbecause the handof the LORDhis God[was] upon him.
And allthe peoplegatheredas onemanat the squarewhichwas in frontof the WaterGate,and they askedEzrathe scribeto bringthe bookof the lawof Moseswhichthe LORDhad givento Israel.
And Jesus saidto them, "Thereforeeveryscribewho has become a discipleof the kingdomof heavenis likea head of a household,whobringsout of his treasurethings newand old."
Thena scribecameand saidto Him, "Teacher,I will followYou whereverYou go."
