Then Davidcalledfor Zadokand Abiatharthe priests,and for the Levites,for Uriel,Asaiah,Joel,Shemaiah,Elieland Amminadab,
[He left] Zadokthe priestand his relativesthe priestsbeforethe tabernacleof the LORDin the highplacewhich[was] at Gibeon,
and Zadokthe sonof Ahituband Abimelechthe sonof Abiathar[were] priests,and Shavsha[was] secretary;
Thesealsocastlotsjustas their relativesthe sonsof Aaronin the presenceof Davidthe king,Zadok,Ahimelech,and the headsof the fathers'[households] of the priestsand of the Levites--the headof fathers'[households] as wellas those of his youngerbrother.
Since morechiefmenwere foundfrom the descendantsof Eleazarthanthe descendantsof Ithamar,they dividedthem thus: [there were] sixteenheadsof fathers'householdsof the descendantsof Eleazarand eightof the descendantsof Ithamar,according to their fathers'households.
Shemaiah,the sonof Nethanelthe scribe,from the Levites,recordedthem in the presenceof the king,the princes,Zadokthe priest,Ahimelechthe sonof Abiathar,and the headsof the fathers'[households] of the priestsand of the Levites;onefather'shouseholdtakenfor Eleazarand one takenfor Ithamar.
Now according to the ordinanceof his fatherDavid,he appointedthe divisionsof the priestsfor their service,and the Levitesfor their dutiesof praiseand ministeringbeforethe priestsaccording to the dailyrule,and the gatekeepersby their divisionsat everygate;for Davidthe manof Godhad socommanded.
Then Davidcameto Nobto Ahimelechthe priest;and Ahimelechcametremblingto meetDavidand saidto him, "Whyare you aloneand noonewith you?"
