Their kinsmenthe Leviteswere appointedfor allthe serviceof the tabernacleof the houseof God.
In JerusalemalsoJehoshaphatappointedsomeof the Levitesand priests,and someof the headsof the fathers'[households] of Israel,for the judgmentof the LORDand to judgedisputesamong the inhabitantsof Jerusalem.
Moreover, Jehoiadaplacedthe officesof the houseof the LORDunder the authorityof the Leviticalpriests,whomDavidhad assignedoverthe houseof the LORD,to offerthe burntofferingsof the LORD,as it is writtenin the lawof Moses--with rejoicingand singingaccordingto the orderof David.
[They were] also overthe burdenbearers,and supervisedallthe workmenfrom jobto job;and [some] of the Levites[were] scribesand officialsand gatekeepers.
Now the overseerof the Levitesin Jerusalemwas Uzzithe sonof Bani,the sonof Hashabiah,the sonof Mattaniah,the sonof Mica,from the sonsof Asaph,who were the singersfor the serviceof the houseof God.
Joelthe sonof Zichriwas their overseer,and Judahthe sonof Hassenuahwas secondin commandof the city.
"In a disputethey shall taketheir standto judge;they shall judgeit according to My ordinances.They shall also keepMy lawsand My statutesin allMy appointedfeastsand sanctifyMy sabbaths.
"For the lipsof a priestshould preserveknowledge,and men should seekinstructionfrom his mouth;for he is the messengerof the LORDof hosts.
"Be on guardfor yourselvesand for allthe flock,amongwhichthe HolySpirithas madeyou overseers,to shepherdthe churchof GodwhichHe purchasedwith His ownblood.
"You shall appointfor yourself judgesand officersin allyour townswhichthe LORDyour Godis givingyou, according to your tribes,and they shall judgethe peoplewith righteousjudgment.
