For I delivered the poor who cried for help, and the fatherless who had none to help him.
They turn the needy out of the way; the poor of the earth hide themselves together.
They pluck the fatherless from the breast, and take a pledge from the poor.
Did I not weep for him whose day was hard; and my soul grieved for the poor?
or have eaten my bit alone, and the fatherless has not eaten of it,
for from my youth he grew up with me, as with a father, and from my mother's womb I guided her;
if I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless when I watched over my help in the gate;
so as to cause the cry of the poor to come to Him, for He hears the cry of the afflicted.
In His holy dwelling God is the father of the fatherless, and the judge of the widows.
For He shall deliver the needy when he cries; and the poor with no helper.
I am counted with those who go down to the Pit; I am like a feeble man;
Whoever stops his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.
Open your mouth for the dumb, for the cause of all the sons of those passing away.
He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well with him. Was this not to know Me? says Jehovah.
He executes justice for the fatherless and widow, and loves the stranger in giving him food and clothing.
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, to visit orphans and widows in their afflictions, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.
