Seeing from afar a fig tree with leaves, He went to see if perhaps He might find anything on it. When He came to it, He found nothing except leaves, for it was not the season for figs.

And He fenced it, and removed its stones, and planted it with the choicest vine. And He built a tower in the midst of it, and also made a winepress in it; and He expected it to bring forth good grapes, but it brought forth wild grapes.

Jesus said to it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And His disciples heard it.

Now by chance, a priest came down that road. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.

So she went to glean in the field behind the harvesters. She happened to come to a part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was from the clan of Elimelek.

See, if it goes up by the way of His own territory to Beth-shemesh, then He has done us this great evil. But if not, then we will know that it is not His hand that struck us; it was by chance that it happened to us.”
