When Ahab heard these words, he tore his clothes, put sackcloth over his body, and fasted. He lay down in sackcloth and walked around subdued.

While he was sitting on the judge’s bench, his wife sent word to him, “Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for today I’ve suffered terribly in a dream because of Him! ”

When the centurion and those with him, who were guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they were terrified and said, “This man really was God’s Son! ”

A third time he said to them, “Why? What has this man done wrong? I have found in Him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore, I will have Him whipped and then release Him.”

We are punished justly, because we’re getting back what we deserve for the things we did, but this man has done nothing wrong.”

When the centurion saw what happened, he began to glorify God, saying, “This man really was righteous! ”

“We have a law,” the Jews replied to him, “and according to that law He must die, because He made Himself the Son of God.”

Though they found no grounds for the death penalty, they asked Pilate to have Him killed.

Now we know that whatever the law says speaks to those who are subject to the law, so that every mouth may be shut and the whole world may become subject to God’s judgment.

through the hypocrisy of liars whose consciences are seared.

They profess to know God, but they deny Him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, and disqualified for any good work.

For this is the kind of high priest we need: holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens.

but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without defect or blemish.

unlike Cain, who was of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his works were evil, and his brother’s were righteous.

Those who live on the earth will gloat over them and celebrate and send gifts to one another because these two prophets brought judgment to those who live on the earth.
