For the turning away of the inexperienced will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them.

They say to the seers, “Do not see,” and to the prophets, “Do not prophesy the truth to us. Tell us flattering things. Prophesy illusions.

But they refused to pay attention and turned a stubborn shoulder; they closed their ears so they could not hear.

For this people’s heart has grown callous; their ears are hard of hearing, and they have shut their eyes; otherwise they might see with their eyes and hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn back — and I would cure them.

Then they screamed at the top of their voices, covered their ears, and together rushed against him.

For this reason God sends them a strong delusion so that they will believe what is false,

or to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies. These promote empty speculations rather than God’s plan, which operates by faith.

But have nothing to do with irreverent and silly myths. Rather, train yourself in godliness,

Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you, avoiding irreverent, empty speech and contradictions from the “knowledge” that falsely bears that name.

This you know: All those in Asia have turned away from me, including Phygelus and Hermogenes.

and may not pay attention to Jewish myths and the commands of men who reject the truth.

For we did not follow cleverly contrived myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ; instead, we were eyewitnesses of His majesty.
