But the people only laughed and insulted these prophets. They ignored what the LORD God was trying to tell them, until he finally became so angry that nothing could stop him from punishing Judah and Jerusalem.

But what the LORD has planned will stand for ever. His thoughts never change.

The LORD All-Powerful has made this promise: Everything I have planned will happen just as I said.

May that man be like the towns you destroyed without pity. Let him hear shouts of alarm in the morning and battle cries at midday.

I will bless you with a future filled with hope—a future of success, not of suffering.

In the past, I took care to uproot them, to tear them down, and to destroy them. But when that day comes, I will take care to plant them and help them grow.

Even though I have brought disaster on the people, I will some day do all these good things for them.

That time will certainly come! And when it does, I won't show the people of Jerusalem any pity or change my mind. They must be punished for the evil they have done. I, the LORD God, have spoken.

Israel, I, the LORD All-Powerful, was very angry with your ancestors. But if you people will return to me, I will turn and help you.

But my warnings and my words spoken by the prophets caught up with your ancestors. So they turned back to me and said, “LORD All-Powerful, you have punished us for our sins, just as you had planned.”
