Then every clan in Judah will realize that I, the LORD All-Powerful, am their God, and that I am the source of their strength.

I praise you, LORD! You are my mighty rock, and you teach me how to fight my battles.

You give me strength and guide me right.

You helped me win victories, and you forced my attackers to fall victim to me.

God is our mighty fortress, always ready to help in times of trouble.

You are no better than the leaders and people of Sodom and Gomorrah! So listen to the LORD God:

Your leaders have rejected me to become friends of crooks; your rulers are looking for gifts and bribes. Widows and orphans never get a fair trial.

Jerusalem, I will choose judges and advisers like those you had before. Your new name will be “Justice and Faithfulness”.

When this time comes, the LORD All-Powerful will be a glorious crown for his people who survive.

He will see that justice rules and that his people are able to defend their cities.

The LORD has made you drowsy; he put you into a deep sleep and covered your head.

A king and his leaders will rule with justice.

They will admit that I alone can bring about justice. Everyone who is angry with me will be terribly ashamed and will turn to me.

I will bring bronze and iron in place of wood and stone; in place of bronze and iron, I will bring gold and silver. I will appoint peace and justice as your rulers and leaders.

One of your own people will become your ruler. And when I invite him to come near me at the place of worship, he will do so. No one would dare to come near without being invited.

In the same way, I will never reject the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob or break my promise that they will always have a descendant of David as their king. I will be kind to my people Israel, and they will be successful again.

From the heart of Jerusalem the LORD roars like a lion, shaking the earth and sky. But the LORD is a fortress, a place of safety for his people Israel.

I'll strengthen my people because of who I am, and they will follow me. I, the LORD, have spoken!

I will strengthen the kingdoms of Judah and Israel. And I will show mercy because I am the LORD, their God. I will answer their prayers and bring them home. Then it will seem as though I had never rejected them.

I will make every horse panic and every rider confused. But at the same time, I will watch over Judah.

At that time I will let the clans of Judah be like a ball of fire in a wood pile or a fiery torch in a hay stack. Then Judah will send the surrounding nations up in smoke. And once again the city of Jerusalem will be filled with people.

until even the people of Judah turn against those in Jerusalem. This same terrible disaster will also strike every animal nearby, including horses, mules, camels, and donkeys. Finally, everything of value in the surrounding nations will be collected and brought to Jerusalem—gold, silver, and piles of clothing.

I praise you, LORD, and I am grateful for those leaders and soldiers who volunteered.
