Solomon sent for Abiathar the priest and said: Abiathar, go back home to Anathoth! You ought to be killed too, but I won't do it now. When my father David was king, you were in charge of the sacred chest, and you went through a lot of hard times with my father.

and prayed: I am much too ashamed to face you, LORD God. Our sins and our guilt have swept over us like a flood that reaches up to the heavens.

When that happens, we tell everyone, “I sinned and did wrong, but God forgave me

That's why I hate myself and sit here in dust and ashes to show my sorrow.

Then I went to your temple, and there I understood what will happen to my enemies.

“Now you will eat the fruit of what you have done, until you are stuffed full with your own schemes.

You may think you are on the right road and still end up dead.

Sometimes what seems right is really a road to death.

Tell those who obey God, “You're very fortunate— you will be rewarded for what you have done.”

My people, you planted wheat, but because I was furious, I let only weeds grow. You wore yourselves out for nothing!

But I know your deeds and your thoughts, and I will make sure you get what you deserve.

So I, the LORD, refused to let the spring rains fall. But just like a prostitute, you still have no shame for what you have done.

When we were young, we strayed and sinned, but then we realized what we had done. We are ashamed and disgraced and want to return to you.”

They should be ashamed of their disgusting sins, but they don't even blush. And so, when I punish Judah, they will end up on the ground, dead like everyone else.

then if they are truly sorry, describe for them the design and shape of the temple, the gates, the measurements, and how the buildings are arranged. Explain the regulations about worshipping there, then write down these things, so they can study and obey them.

Many of those who lie dead in the ground will rise from death. Some of them will be given eternal life, and others will receive nothing but eternal shame and disgrace.

They know God has said that anyone who acts this way deserves to die. But they keep on doing evil things, and they even encourage others to do them.

Adam sinned, and that sin brought death into the world. Now everyone has sinned, and so everyone must die.

Don't you know that you are slaves of anyone you obey? You can be slaves of sin and die, or you can be obedient slaves of God and be acceptable to him.

The reward for sin is death. But God's gift is eternal life given by Jesus Christ our Lord.

When we thought only of ourselves, the Law made us have sinful desires. It made every part of our bodies into slaves who are doomed to die.

If you do, you will die. But you will live, if by the help of God's Spirit you say “No” to your desires.

If our minds are ruled by our desires, we will die. But if our minds are ruled by the Spirit, we will have life and peace.

We don't do shameful things that must be kept secret. And we don't try to fool anyone or twist God's message around. God is our witness that we speak only the truth, so others will be sure that we can be trusted.

Just look what God has done by making you feel sorry! You sincerely want to prove that you are innocent. You are angry. You are shocked. You are eager to see that justice is done. You have proved that you were completely right in this matter.

If a criminal is put to death, and you hang the dead body on a tree,

that they are headed for hell! They worship their stomachs and boast about the disgusting things they do. All they can think about are the things of this world.

But it is much worse to dishonour God's Son and to disgrace the blood of the promise that made us holy. And it is just as bad to insult the Holy Spirit, who shows us mercy.

But land that produces only thorn bushes is worthless. It is likely to fall under God's curse, and in the end it will be set on fire.

Our desires make us sin, and when sin is finished with us, it leaves us dead.

If you turn sinners from the wrong way, you will save them from death, and many of their sins will be forgiven.

God has already begun judging his own people. And if his judgment begins with us, imagine how terrible it will be for those who refuse to obey his message. The Scriptures say,

Children, stay united in your hearts with Christ. Then when he returns, we will have confidence and won't have to hide in shame.

They poured out the blood of your people and your prophets. So you gave them blood to drink, as they deserve!”

Afterwards, death and its kingdom were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
