The Scriptures say that Abraham would become the ancestor of many nations. This promise was made to Abraham because he had faith in God, who raises the dead to life and creates new things.

I will bless her, and you will have a son by her. She will become the mother of nations, and some of her descendants will even be kings.

I have heard what you asked me to do for Ishmael, and so I will also bless him with many descendants. He will be the father of twelve princes, and I will make his family a great nation.

I pray that God All-Powerful will bless you with many descendants and let you become a great nation.

I will say to the north and to the south, “Free my sons and daughters! Let them return from distant lands.

Can anyone compare with me? If so, let them speak up and tell me now. Let them say what has happened since I made my nation long ago, and let them tell what is going to happen.

With my own hand I created the earth and stretched out the sky. They obey my every command.

Then my people will return from distant lands in the north and the west and from the city of Syene.

God chose Abraham and Sarah to be your ancestors. The LORD blessed Abraham, and from that one man came many descendants.

When you are set free, you will celebrate and travel home in peace. Mountains and hills will sing as you pass by, and trees will clap.

And don't start telling yourselves that you belong to Abraham's family. I tell you that God can turn these stones into children for Abraham.

Just as the Father raises the dead and gives life, so the Son gives life to anyone he wants to.

I tell you for certain that the time will come, and it is already here, when all the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God. And those who listen to it will live!

The Spirit is the one who gives life! Human strength can do nothing. The words that I have spoken to you are from that life-giving Spirit.

Does God belong only to the Jews? Isn't he also the God of the Gentiles? Yes, he is!

God promised Abraham a lot of descendants. And when it all seemed hopeless, Abraham still had faith in God and became the ancestor of many nations.

If he became acceptable to God because of what he did, then he would have something to boast about. But he would never be able to boast about it to God.

Yet God raised Jesus to life! God's Spirit now lives in you, and he will raise you to life by his Spirit.

Even before they were born or had done anything good or bad, the Lord told Rebekah that her elder son would serve the younger one. The Lord said this to show that he makes his own choices and that it wasn't because of anything either of them had done.

“Once they were told, ‘You are not my people.’ But in that very place they will be called children of the living God.”

What the world thinks is worthless, useless, and nothing at all is what God has used to destroy what the world considers important.

The first man was named Adam, and the Scriptures tell us that he was a living person. But Jesus, who may be called the last Adam, is a life-giving spirit.

Now I ask you to make a promise. Make it in the presence of God, who gives life to all, and in the presence of Jesus Christ, who openly told Pontius Pilate about his faith.

Her husband Abraham was almost dead, but he became the ancestor of many people. In fact, there are as many of them as there are stars in the sky or grains of sand along the beach.

Because of our faith, we know that the world was made at God's command. We also know that what can be seen was made out of what cannot be seen.

Because Noah had faith, he was warned about something that had not yet happened. He obeyed and built a boat that saved him and his family. In this way the people of the world were judged, and Noah was given the blessings that come to everyone who pleases God.

“Once you were nobody. Now you are God's people. At one time no one had pity on you. Now God has treated you with kindness.”

Dear friends, don't forget that for the Lord one day is the same as a thousand years, and a thousand years is the same as one day.
