You are sure that you are a guide for the blind and a light for all who are in the dark.

There is more hope for a fool than for someone who says, “I'm really clever!”

Now the LORD says to me, “It isn't enough for you to be merely my servant. You must do more than lead back survivors from the tribes of Israel. I have placed you here as a light for other nations; you must take my saving power to everyone on earth.”

You think you are clever and wise.

You leaders of Israel should be watchdogs, protecting my people. But you can't see a thing, and you never warn them. Dozing and daydreaming are all you ever do.

Stay away from those Pharisees! They are like blind people leading other blind people, and all of them will fall into a ditch.”

Although your people live in darkness, they will see a bright light. Although they live in the shadow of death, a light will shine on them.”

You are like light for the whole world. A city built on top of a hill cannot be hidden,

But when your eyes are bad, everything is dark. If the light inside you is dark, you are in the dark.

I promise you that you cannot get into God's kingdom, unless you accept it the way a child does.”

On us who live in the dark shadow of death this light will shine to guide us into a life of peace.

The leaders told the man, “You have been a sinner since the day you were born! Do you think you can teach us anything?” Then they said, “You can never come back into any of our meeting places!”

I want you to open their eyes, so that they will turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God. Then their sins will be forgiven, and by faith in me they will become part of God's holy people.”

By reading the Scriptures you learn how God wants you to behave, and you discover what is right.

And since there is knowledge and truth in God's Law, you think you can instruct fools and teach young people.

Don't fool yourselves! If any of you think you are wise in the things of this world, you will have to become foolish before you can be truly wise.

Because of Christ we are thought of as fools, but Christ has made you wise. We are weak and hated, but you are powerful and respected.

Then you will be the pure and innocent children of God. You live among people who are crooked and evil, but you must not do anything that they can say is wrong. Try to shine as lights among the people of this world,
