Keep your promise and don't let me stumble or let sin control my life.

I lie awake at night, thinking of your promises.

because they bring happiness like treasures taken in war.

I live here as a stranger. Don't keep me from knowing your commands.

I am eager to learn all that you want me to do; help me to understand more and more.

When you corrected me, it did me good because it taught me to study your laws.

I belong to you, and I have respected your laws, so keep me safe.

It's selfish and stupid to think only of yourself and to sneer at people who have sense.

Your road won't be blocked, and you won't stumble when you run.

With all my wisdom I tried to understand everything that happens here on earth. And God has made this so hard for us humans to do.

You search the Scriptures, because you think you will find eternal life in them. The Scriptures tell about me,

Don't be stupid. Instead, find out what the Lord wants you to do.

But you must never stop looking at the perfect law that sets you free. God will bless you in everything you do, if you listen and obey, and don't just hear and forget.

Speak and act like people who will be judged by the law that sets us free.

They promise freedom to everyone. But they are merely slaves of filthy living, because people are slaves of whatever controls them.
