If I had, I would pray for weeds instead of wheat to grow in my fields. After saying these things, Job was silent.

No matter how much you want, laziness won't help a bit, but hard work will reward you with more than enough.

Showing respect to the LORD brings true life— if you do it, you can relax without fear of danger.

If you are too lazy to plough, don't expect a harvest.

Don't be so lazy that you say, “If I go to work, a lion will eat me!”

It will make you feel drowsy, and you will end up poor with only rags to wear.

When I saw this, it taught me a lesson:

Some people are too lazy to fix a leaky roof— then the house falls in.

Now I will let you know what I am going to do. I will cut down the hedge and tear down the wall. My vineyard will be trampled and left in ruins.

It will turn into a desert, neither pruned nor hoed; it will be covered with thorns and briars. I will command the clouds not to send rain.

People of Jerusalem and Judah, don't be so stubborn! Your hearts have become hard, like unploughed ground where thorn bushes grow.

The seeds that fell among the thorn bushes are also people who hear the message. But they start worrying about the needs of this life and are fooled by the desire to get rich. So the message gets choked out, and they never produce anything.

Some other seeds fell where thorn bushes grew up and choked the plants.

But land that produces only thorn bushes is worthless. It is likely to fall under God's curse, and in the end it will be set on fire.
