The old prophet said, “I'm a prophet too. One of the LORD's angels told me to take you to my house and give you something to eat and drink.” The prophet from Judah did not know that the old prophet was lying,

“Come and save me, LORD, from deceitful liars!”

You destroy every liar, and you despise violence and deceit.

The LORD hates anyone who cheats, but he likes everyone who is honest.

The LORD hates cunning people, but he likes everyone who lives right.

The LORD is disgusted by gifts from the wicked, but it makes him happy when his people pray.

It sounds strange for a fool to talk sensibly, but it's even worse for a ruler to tell lies.

Their rulers and leaders were the head, and the lying prophets were the tail.

If you feel you must boast, then have enough sense to boast about worshipping me, the LORD. What I like best is showing kindness, justice, and mercy to everyone on earth.

They charge my people a few handfuls of barley and a couple of pieces of bread, and then give messages that are insulting to me. They use lies to sentence the innocent to death and to help the guilty go free. And my people believe them!

They do things I would never do. They lie to good people and encourage them to do wrong, and they convince the wicked to keep sinning and ruin their lives.

But I will tell you what will happen to cowards and to everyone who is unfaithful or dirty-minded or who murders or is sexually immoral or uses witchcraft or worships idols or tells lies. They will be thrown into that lake of fire and burning sulphur. This is the second death.

But outside the city will be dogs, witches, immoral people, murderers, idol worshippers, and everyone who loves to tell lies and do wrong.
