Nehemiah 13:22

I ordered the Levites to make themselves holy and to guard the gates on the Sabbath, so that it would be kept holy. God is truly merciful, and I pray that he will treat me with kindness and bless me for doing this.

“Don't forget that I have been faithful to you, LORD. I have obeyed you with all my heart, and I do whatever you say is right.” After this, he cried hard.

Josiah told Hilkiah the priest, the assistant priests, and the guards at the temple door to go into the temple and bring out the things used to worship Baal, Asherah, and the stars. The priests and Levites held special ceremonies to make themselves holy, and then they did the same for the rest of the people and for the gates and walls of the city.

I pray that my God will remember these good things that I have done for his temple and for those who worship there.

I also arranged for the people to bring firewood to the altar each day and for them to bring the first part of their harvest to the temple. I pray that God will bless me for the good I have done.

I pray that God will bless me for everything I have done for my people.

Israel, trust the LORD! He is always merciful, and he has the power to save you.

Because of your great mercy, I come to your house, LORD, and I am filled with wonder as I bow down to worship at your holy temple.

You are kind, God! Please have pity on me. You are always merciful! Please wipe away my sins.

The kings and queens of those nations where they were raised will come and bow down. They will take care of you just like a slave taking care of a child. Then you will know that I am the LORD. You won't be disappointed if you trust me.”

Give up your crooked ways and your evil thoughts. Return to the LORD our God. He will be merciful and forgive your sins.

We can be proud of our clear conscience. We have always lived honestly and sincerely, especially when we were with you. And we were guided by God's wonderful kindness instead of by the wisdom of this world.

Show respect for the Sabbath Day—it belongs to me.
