We won't buy goods or grain on the Sabbath or on any other sacred day, not even from foreigners. Every seven years we will let our fields rest, and we will cancel all debts.

Judah was an empty desert, and it stayed that way for seventy years, to make up for all the years it was not allowed to rest. These things happened just as Jeremiah the LORD's prophet had said.

I discovered that some Jewish men had married women from Ashdod, Ammon, and Moab.

So we will obey you and not rebel against our God by marrying foreign women.

Meet together for worship on the first and seventh days of the festival. The only work you are allowed to do on either of these two days is that of preparing the bread.

This is a day of celebration and worship, a time of rest from your work. You and your descendants must obey this law.

You have six days when you can do your work, but the seventh day of each week is holy because it belongs to me. No matter where you live, you must rest on the Sabbath and come together for worship. This law will never change.

Forgive us for doing wrong, as we forgive others.

Don't let anyone tell you what you must eat or drink. Don't let them say that you must celebrate the New Moon festival, the Sabbath, or any other festival.

Do this, because on the day of judgment there will be no pity for those who have not had pity on others. But even in judgment, God is merciful!
