Rescue any who need to be saved, as you would rescue someone from a fire. Then with fear in your own hearts, have mercy on everyone who needs it. But hate even the clothes of those who have been made dirty by their filthy deeds.

It was late in the evening, some time after dark.

We are unfit to worship you; each of our good deeds is merely a filthy rag. We dry up like leaves; our sins are storm winds sweeping us away.

Yes, her prophets and priests were covered with blood; no one would come near them, as they wandered from street to street.

And if you either slept or ate in the house, you must wash your clothes.

If the semen touches anything made of cloth or leather, these must be washed, but they still remain unclean until evening.

I destroyed many of you, just as I did the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. You were a burning stick I rescued from the fire. Even then you rejected me. I, the LORD, have spoken!

I hope in this way to make some of my own people jealous enough to be saved.

Don't fool yourselves. Bad friends will destroy you.

But if it is destroyed by the fire, we will lose everything. Yet we ourselves will be saved, like someone escaping from flames.

We know what it means to respect the Lord, and we encourage everyone to turn to him. God himself knows what we are like, and I hope you also know what kind of people we are.

Be on your guard against any followers who refuse to obey what we have written in this letter. Put them to shame by not having anything to do with them.

Be careful about the way you live and about what you teach. Keep on doing this, and you will save not only yourself, but the people who hear you.

Greeting them is the same as taking part in their evil deeds.

Be helpful to all who may have doubts.

Buy your gold from me. It has been refined in a fire, and it will make you rich. Buy white clothes from me. Wear them and you can cover-up your shameful nakedness. Buy medicine for your eyes, so that you will be able to see.

A few of you in Sardis have not dirtied your clothes with sin. You will walk with me in white clothes, because you are worthy.
