God may kill me, but still I will trust him and offer my defence.

streams wear away stones and wash away soil. And you destroy our hopes!

Because in only a few years, I will be dead and gone.

My hopes have died, my time is up, and the grave is ready.

My life is drawing to an end; hope has disappeared.

But what kind of hope is that?

Will it keep me company in the world of the dead?

God rips me apart, uproots my hopes,

Why should I patiently hope when my strength is gone?

My life is speeding by, without a hope of happiness.

My life fades like a shadow at the end of day and withers like grass.

We disappear like a breath; we last no longer than a faint shadow.

In times of trouble the wicked are destroyed, but even at death the innocent have faith.

Your shoes are worn out, and your throat is parched from running here and there to worship foreign gods. “Stop!” I shouted, but you replied, “No! I love those gods too much.”

At that time you did not know about Christ. You were foreigners to the people of Israel, and you had no part in the promises that God had made to them. You were living in this world without hope and without God,

scorched by the burning heat of the sun. The flowers lose their blossoms, and their beauty is destroyed. That is how the rich will disappear, as they go about their business.

What do you know about tomorrow? How can you be so sure about your life? It is nothing more than mist that appears for only a little while before it disappears.

Be alert and think straight. Put all your hope in how kind God will be to you when Jesus Christ appears.

The Scriptures say, “Humans wither like grass, and their glory fades like wild flowers. Grass dries up, and flowers fall to the ground.
