I have chosen him to teach his family to obey me for ever and to do what is right and fair. Then I will give Abraham many descendants, just as I promised.”

For seven days they celebrated the Festival of Thin Bread. Everyone was happy because the LORD God of Israel had made sure that the king of Assyria would be kind to them and help them build the temple.

But I would offer hope and comfort instead.

Everyone was pleased with what I said and did.

I was good to the blind and to the lame.

I was a father to the needy, and I defended them in court, even if they were strangers.

Everyone listened in silence to my welcome advice,

Many are helped by useful instruction, but fools are killed by their own stupidity.

Words of wisdom make good sense; the thoughts of a fool make no sense at all.

Good judgment proves that you are wise, and if you speak kindly, you can teach others.

Here is a message for all who are weak, trembling, and worried: “Cheer up! Don't be afraid. Your God is coming to punish your enemies. God will take revenge on them and rescue you.”

The LORD God gives me the right words to encourage the weary. Each morning he awakens me eager to learn his teaching;

They do things I would never do. They lie to good people and encourage them to do wrong, and they convince the wicked to keep sinning and ruin their lives.

Jerusalem, the time is coming, when it will be said to you: “Don't be discouraged or grow weak from fear!

But Simon, I have prayed that your faith will be strong. And when you have come back to me, help the others.”

Then an angel from heaven came to help him.

Stop all your dirty talk. Say the right thing at the right time and help others by what you say.

Joshua will lead Israel across the Jordan to take the land, so help him be strong and brave and tell him what he must do.”

Be pleasant and hold their interest when you speak the message. Choose your words carefully and be ready to give answers to anyone who asks questions.

Now stand up straight! Stop your knees from shaking
