Why didn't I die at birth?
because it let me be born into a world of trouble.
Why was I accepted and allowed to nurse at my mother's breast?
Let them dry up like snails or be like a child that dies before seeing the sun.
I have relied on you from the day I was born. You brought me safely through birth, and I always praise you.
I said to myself, “The dead are better off than the living.
But those who have never been born are better off than anyone else, because they have never seen the terrible things that happen on this earth.”
You may live a long time and have a hundred children. But a child born dead is better off than you, unless you enjoy life and have a decent burial.
You survivors in Israel, listen to me, the LORD. Since the day you were born, I have carried you along.
I wish I had never been born! I'm always in trouble with everyone in Judah. I never lend or borrow money, but everyone curses me just the same.
He deserves to die for not killing me before I was born. Then my mother's body would have been my grave.
Our LORD, do just one thing for your people— make their women unable to have children or to nurse their babies.
