But we are happy, because everyone has voluntarily given you these things. You know what is in everyone's heart, and you are pleased when people are honest.

What do we gain from praying and worshipping you?

What use are we humans to God, even the wisest of us?

Is he correcting you for worshipping him?

because he has said, “It doesn't pay to please God.”

Is any good you may have done at all helpful to him?

I pay careful attention as you lead me, and I follow closely.

I told myself, “I'll be careful not to sin by what I say, and I'll muzzle my mouth when evil people are near.”

The LORD hates anyone who cheats, but he likes everyone who is honest.

The LORD hates cunning people, but he likes everyone who lives right.

The LORD hates every liar, but he is the friend of all who can be trusted.

The LORD is disgusted by gifts from the wicked, but it makes him happy when his people pray.

Good sense is good for you, but if you boast, you hurt yourself.

You have worn out the LORD with your words. And yet, you ask, “How did we do that?” You did it by saying, “The LORD is pleased with evil and doesn't care about justice.”

And because I am sure, I try my best to have a clear conscience in whatever I do for God or for people.

My friends, God has made us these promises. So we should stay away from everything that keeps our bodies and spirits from being clean. We should honour God and try to be completely like him.

I have been paid back everything, and with interest. I am completely satisfied with the gifts that you asked Epaphroditus to bring me. They are like a sweet-smelling offering or like the right kind of sacrifice that pleases God.
