Please hide me, God, deep in the ground— and when you are angry no more, remember to rescue me.

In times of war and famine, God will keep you safe.

Here I am desperate, and you consider my words as worthless as wind.

And so, I cry out to you in agony and distress.

I am not guilty, but I no longer care what happens to me.

There's nothing I can say in answer to you, since you are the one who has done this to me. My life has turned sour; I will limp until I die.

It was for my own good that I had such hard times. But your love protected me from doom in the deep pit, and you turned your eyes away from my sins.

Now let me die! I'd be better off dead.

During the day the LORD sent a scorching wind, and the sun beat down on Jonah's head, making him feel faint. Jonah was ready to die, and he shouted, “I wish I were dead!”

If this is the way you're going to treat me, just kill me now and end my miserable life!
