I won't calm down until I have finished what I have decided to do. Some day, you will understand what I mean.

Jacob called his sons together and said: My sons, I am Jacob, your father Israel. Come, gather around, as I tell your future.

The LORD All-Powerful has made this promise: Everything I have planned will happen just as I said.

and brought someone from a distant land to do what I wanted. He attacked from the east, like a hawk swooping down. Now I will keep my promise and do what I planned.

They are evil! So in my anger I will strike them like a violent storm.

I won't calm down, until I have finished what I have decided to do. Some day you will understand exactly what I mean.

Then I said to the people of Israel, “Put on sackcloth! Mourn and cry out, ‘The LORD is still angry with us.’ ”

Yet some day, I will bring your people back home. I, the LORD, have spoken.

Their armies will crush and kill you, and you will face the disaster that my anger brings.

But I promise that some day I will bring your people back to their land.

No passer-by even cares. Why doesn't someone notice my terrible sufferings? You were fiercely angry, LORD, and you punished me worst of all.

You will attack my people like a storm cloud that covers their land. I will let you invade my country Israel, so that every nation on earth will know that I, the LORD, am holy.

Now I have come here to give you another vision about what will happen to your people in the future.

But the God who rules from heaven can explain mysteries. And while you were sleeping, he showed you what will happen in the future.

But later, Israel will turn back to the LORD their God and to David their king. At that time they will come to the LORD with fear and trembling, and he will be good to them.

In the future, the mountain with the LORD's temple will be the highest of all. It will reach above the hills, and every nation will rush to it.

So I'm going back home, but I'm leaving you with a warning about what the Israelites will some day do to your nation.”

I am going to die soon, and I know that in the future you will stop caring about what is right and what is wrong, and so you will disobey the LORD and stop living the way I told you to live. The LORD will be angry, and terrible things will happen to you.

I will punish Eli and his family, just as I promised.
