Your strongest leaders will be like dry wood set on fire by their idols. No one will be able to help, as they all go up in flames.

to beat down you godless people. I am angry with you, and I will send him to attack you. He will take what he wants and walk on you like mud in the streets.

I, the LORD All-Powerful, am terribly angry— I will make the sky tremble and the earth shake loose.

Their arrows will slaughter the young men; no pity will be shown to babies and children.

I, the LORD, will show no mercy or pity when that time comes. In my anger I will destroy the earth and every sinner who lives on it.

The earth is under a curse; its people are dying out because of their sins.

Your hand is raised and ready to punish them, but they don't see it. Put them to shame! Show how much you care for us and throw them into the fire intended for your enemies.

You will each be cruel to friends and neighbours. Young people will insult their elders; no one will show respect to those who deserve it.

Those terrible sinners on Mount Zion tremble as they ask in fear, “How can we possibly live where a raging fire never stops burning?”

after the LORD sends a fiery judgment to clean the city and its people of their violent deeds.

He was furious with them and punished their nation with the fires of war. Still they paid no attention. They didn't even care when they were surrounded and scorched by flames.

You will go up in flames like straw and hay! You have rejected the teaching of the holy LORD God All-Powerful of Israel. Now your roots will rot, and your blossoms will turn to dust.

On the day they attack, they will roar like the sea. And across the land you will see nothing but darkness and trouble, because the light of day will be covered by thick clouds.

The earth and its people are covered with darkness, but the glory of the LORD is shining upon you.

and on earth, they will find only trouble and darkness, terrible trouble and deepest darkness.

You hope for light, but God is sending darkness. Evening shadows already deepen in the hills. So return to God and confess your sins to him before you trip and fall.

that I, the LORD God, will start a fire that will burn up every tree, whether green or dry. Nothing will be able to put out the blaze of that fire as it spreads to the north and burns everything in its path.

He turned to the other six men and said, “Follow him and put to death everyone who doesn't have a mark on their forehead. Show no mercy or pity! Kill men and women, parents and children. Begin here at my temple and be sure not to harm those who are marked.” The men immediately killed the leaders who were standing there.

It will be dark and gloomy with storm clouds overhead. Troops will cover the mountains like thunderclouds. No army this powerful has ever been gathered before or will ever be again.

Fiery flames surround them; no one escapes. Before they invaded, the land was like Eden; now only a desert remains.

You will have such a shortage of bread, that ten women will be able to bake their bread in the same oven. Each of you will get only a few crumbs, and you will go hungry.

You look forward to the day when the LORD comes to judge. But you are in for trouble! It won't be a time of sunshine; all will be darkness.

Israel will be a fire, and Edom will be straw going up in flames. The LORD has spoken!

No one is loyal to God; no one does right. Everyone is brutal and eager to deceive everyone else.

Sons refuse to respect their own fathers, daughters rebel against their own mothers, and daughters-in-law despise their mothers-in-law. Your family is now your enemy.

Tend those sheep because I, the LORD, will no longer have pity on the people of this earth. I'll turn neighbour against neighbour and make them slaves of a king. They will bring disaster on the earth, and I'll do nothing to rescue any of them.

Then I said, “I refuse to be your shepherd. Let the sheep that are going to die, go on and die, and those that are going to be destroyed, go on and be destroyed. Then let the others eat one another alive.”

The day of judgment is certain to come. And it will be like a red-hot furnace with flames that burn up proud and sinful people, as though they were straw. Not a branch or a root will be left. I, the LORD All-Powerful, have spoken!

At midday the sky turned dark and stayed that way until three o'clock.

The sun will turn dark, and the moon will be as red as blood before the great and wonderful day of the Lord appears.

God did not have pity on the angels that sinned. He had them tied up and thrown into the dark pits of hell until the time of judgment.
