After they had reached the other side, Elijah said, “Elisha, the LORD will soon take me away. What can I do for you before that happens?” Elisha answered, “Please give me twice as much of your power as you give the other prophets, so I can be the one who takes your place as their leader.”

After Job had prayed for his three friends, the LORD made Job twice as rich as he had been before.

We cried as we went out to plant our seeds. Now let us celebrate as we bring in the crops.

You have shown me the path to life, and you make me glad by being near to me. Sitting at your right side, I will always be joyful.

The people the LORD has rescued will come back singing as they enter Zion. Happiness will be a crown they will always wear. They will celebrate and shout because all sorrows and worries will be gone far away.

Speak kindly to Jerusalem and announce: Your slavery is past; your punishment is over. I, the LORD, made you pay double for your sins.”

Now those you have rescued will return to Jerusalem, singing on their way. They will be crowned with great happiness, never again to be burdened with sadness and sorrow.

Don't be afraid or ashamed and don't be discouraged. You won't be disappointed. Forget how sinful you were when you were young; stop feeling ashamed for being left a widow.

You were hated and deserted, rejected by everyone. But I will make you beautiful, a city to be proud of for all time to come.

Your people will live right and always own the land; they are the trees I planted to bring praise to me.

I, the LORD God, will give food and drink to my servants, and they will celebrate. But all of you sinners will go hungry and thirsty, overcome with disgrace.

I will punish those who ill-treat you. I will bring together the lame and the outcasts, then they will be praised, instead of despised, in every country on earth.

Instead, I will make sure that your crops are planted in peace and your vineyards are fruitful, that your fields are fertile and the dew falls from the sky.

and offer you hope. Return to your fortress, because today I will reward you with twice what you had.

Then Jesus said, “Those people will be punished for ever. But the ones who pleased God will have eternal life.”

These little troubles are getting us ready for an eternal glory that will make all our troubles seem like nothing.

God our Father loves us. He is kind and has given us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope. We pray that our Lord Jesus Christ and God our Father
