Who is this coming from Bozrah in Edom with clothes stained red? Who is this hero marching in his glorious uniform? “It's me, the LORD! I have won the battle, and I can save you!”

I will answer their prayers before they finish praying.

Did this disaster take you by surprise? Are you a warrior with your hands tied? You have chosen us, and your temple is here. Don't abandon us!

LORD God, you stretched out your mighty arm and made the sky and the earth. You can do anything.

So in my fierce anger, I will punish them without mercy and refuse to help them when they cry out to me.”

Descendants of Jacob, is it right for you to claim that the LORD did what he did because he was angry? Doesn't he always bless those who do right?

The LORD answered, “I can do anything! Watch and you'll see my words come true.”

All of them have stubborn minds! Their ears are stopped up, and their eyes are covered. They cannot see or hear or understand. If they could, they would turn to me, and I would heal them.”

He is for ever able to save the people he leads to God, because he always lives to speak to God for them.

The Israelite army returned to their camp, and the leaders said, “Why did the LORD let us lose to the Philistines today? Let's get the sacred chest where the LORD's agreement with Israel is kept. Then the LORD will help us and rescue us from our enemies.”

and you will finally cry out for the LORD to save you from the king you wanted. But the LORD won't answer your prayers.
