to the LORD your God, who defends you and says, “I have taken from your hands the cup filled with my anger that made you drunk. You will never be forced to drink it again.

Fight my enemies, LORD! Attack my attackers!

You brought hard times on your people, and you gave us wine that made us stagger.

The LORD is their defender, and what you do to them, he will do to you.

Be shocked and stunned, you prophets! Refuse to see. Get drunk and stagger, but not from wine.

Though you are God's people, you are ruled and abused by women and children. You are confused by leaders who guide you down the wrong path.

The LORD is ready to accuse and judge all nations.

But the LORD has promised to fight on our side and to rescue our children from those strong and violent enemies.

Jerusalem, wake up! Stand up! You've drunk too much from the cup filled with the LORD's anger. You have swallowed every drop, and you can't walk straight.

The LORD has given his word and made this promise: “Never again will I give to your enemies the grain and grapes for which you struggled.

The LORD God of Israel showed me a vision in which he said, “Jeremiah, here is a cup filled with the wine of my anger. Take it and make every nation drink some.

But I, the LORD All-Powerful, will rescue and protect them. I will bring peace to their land and trouble to yours.

My people, I am on your side, and I will take revenge on Babylon. I will cut off its water supply, and its stream will dry up.

You rescued me and saved my life.

Never again will I turn my back on the people of Israel, and my Spirit will live in them. I, the LORD, have spoken.

Then in Judgment Valley I will bring together the nations that scattered my people Israel everywhere in the world, and I will bring charges against those nations. They divided up my land

I forced the people of Judah to drink the wine of my anger on my sacred mountain. Soon the neighbouring nations must drink their fill— then vanish without a trace.

I have sinned against the LORD. And so I must endure his anger, until he comes to my defence. But I know that I will see him making things right for me and leading me to the light.

I have decided that Jerusalem will become a bowl of wine that makes the neighbouring nations drunk. And when Jerusalem is attacked, Judah will also be attacked.

Jesus answered, “Not one of you knows what you are asking. Are you able to drink from the cup that I must soon drink from?” James and John said, “Yes, we are!”

David heard that Nabal had died. “I praise the LORD!” David said. “He has judged Nabal guilty for insulting me. The LORD kept me from doing anything wrong, and he made sure that Nabal hurt only himself with his own evil.” Abigail was still at Carmel. So David sent messengers to ask her if she would marry him.
