When Ahab heard this, he tore his clothes and wore sackcloth day and night. He was depressed and refused to eat. Some time later, the LORD said, “Elijah, do you see how sorry Ahab is for what he did? I won't punish his family while he is still alive. I'll wait until his son is king.” No one was more determined than Ahab to disobey the LORD. And Jezebel encouraged him. Worst of all, he had worshipped idols, just as the Amorites had done before the LORD forced them out of the land and gave it to Israel.

They used magic and witchcraft and even sacrificed their own children. The Israelites were determined to do whatever the LORD hated.

One day the widow of one of the LORD's prophets said to Elisha, “You know that before my husband died, he was a follower of yours and a worshipper of the LORD. But he owed a man some money, and now that man is on his way to take my two sons as his slaves.”

We are Jews just as they are, and our children are as good as theirs. But we still have to sell our children as slaves, and some of our daughters have already been raped. We are completely helpless; our fields and vineyards have even been taken from us.”

because a reward has been promised to anyone who kills my people. Your Majesty, if we were merely going to be sold as slaves, I would not have bothered you.”

You sold your people for little or nothing, and you earned no profit.

A young woman who was sold by her father doesn't gain her freedom in the same way that a man does.

But those rebellious sinners who turn against me, the LORD, will all disappear.

I carefully measured out Israel's punishment and sent the scorching heat to chase them far away.

Your earliest ancestor and all your leaders rebelled against me.

Now keep this in mind, you sinful people. And don't ever forget it.

You were like a young wife, brokenhearted and crying because her husband had divorced her. But the LORD your God says, “I am taking you back!

Shout the message! Don't hold back. Say to my people Israel: You've sinned! You've turned against the LORD.

The LORD said to the people of Israel: If a divorced woman marries, can her first husband ever marry her again? No, because this would pollute the land. But you have more gods than a prostitute has lovers. Why should I take you back?

“People of Judah, your hearts will be in pain, but it's your own fault that you will be punished.”

You and the prophets will stumble day and night; I'll silence your mothers.

Suppose some of your people become so poor that they have to sell themselves and become your slaves.

But he didn't have any money to pay what he owed. The king ordered him to be sold, along with his wife and children and all he owned, in order to pay the debt.

How could one enemy soldier chase a thousand of Israel's troops? Or how could two of theirs pursue ten thousand of ours? It can only happen if the LORD stops protecting Israel and lets the enemy win.
