Its plentiful harvest is taken by kings you placed over us because of our sins. Our suffering is unbearable, because they do as they wish to us and our livestock.

Those liars have no sense, but I find happiness in your Law.

They refuse to show mercy, and they keep boasting.

Use your powerful arm and rescue me from the hands of mere humans whose world won't last. You provide food for those you love. Their children have plenty, and their grandchildren will have more than enough.

Their eyes bulge with fat, and their minds are flooded with foolish thoughts.

Your country lies in ruins; your towns are in ashes. Foreigners and strangers take and destroy your land while you watch.

The mighty LORD All-Powerful will send a terrible disease to strike down your army, and you will burn with fever under your royal robes.

The villages around Aroer will be deserted, with only sheep living there and no one to bother them.

The palace will be deserted, the crowded city empty. Fortresses and towers will for ever become playgrounds for wild donkeys and pastures for sheep.

The LORD cares for his nation, just as shepherds care for their flocks. He carries the lambs in his arms, while gently leading the mother sheep.

My people will worship me. Then the coastlands of Sharon and the land as far as Achor Valley will turn into pasture land where cattle and sheep will feed and rest.

The hills where you once planted crops will be overgrown with thorns and thistles. You will be afraid to go there, and your cattle, sheep, and goats will be turned loose on those hills.

You are nothing more than a stubborn cow— so stubborn that I, the LORD, cannot feed you like lambs in an open pasture.

I, the LORD, promise to bring together the people of Israel who have survived. I will gather them, just as a shepherd brings sheep together, and there will be many.

Herds of wild animals will live in its rubble; all kinds of desert owls will perch on its stones and hoot in the windows. Noisy ravens will be heard inside its buildings, stripped bare of cedar.

Your coast will be changed into pasture land and sheep pens.

Some of them will be killed by swords. Others will be carried off to foreign countries. Jerusalem will be overrun by foreign nations until their time comes to an end.

You will work hard on your farms, but everything you harvest will be eaten by foreigners, who will ill-treat you and abuse you for the rest of your life.

Israel, you grew fat and rebelled against God, your Creator; you rejected the Mighty Rock, your only place of safety.
