Other nations worship idols, but the LORD created the heavens.

They have built altars and places for burning incense to their goddess Asherah, and they have set up sacred poles for her. But they will stop worshipping at these places.

Everywhere in the country they worship the idols they have made.

They destroyed the idols of wood and stone that the people of those nations had made and worshipped.

You idols are nothing, and you are powerless. To worship you would be disgusting.

They carry the idol on their shoulders, then put it on a stand, but it cannot move. They call out to the idol when they are in trouble, but it doesn't answer, and it cannot help.

Idols can't send rain, and showers don't fall by themselves. Only you control the rain, so we put our trust in you, the LORD our God.

What is an idol worth? It's merely a false god. Why trust a speechless image made from wood or metal by human hands?

You can't believe idols and fortune-tellers, or depend on the hope you receive from witchcraft and interpreters of dreams. But you have tried all of these, and now you are like sheep without a shepherd.

Don't worship idols! They don't have any power, and they can't help you or save you when you're in trouble.
