No one in the world of the dead can thank you or praise you; none of those in the deep pit can hope for you to show them how faithful you are.
Only you, LORD, are a mighty rock! Don't refuse to help me when I pray. If you don't answer me, I will soon be dead.
“What good will it do you if I am in the grave? Once I have turned to dust, how can I praise you or tell how loyal you are?
If I die, I cannot praise you or even remember you.
My groaning has worn me out. At night my bed and pillow are soaked with tears.
In times of trouble the wicked are destroyed, but even at death the innocent have faith.
Work hard at whatever you do. You will soon go to the world of the dead, where no one works or thinks or reasons or knows anything.
Then Jesus said, “Those people will be punished for ever. But the ones who pleased God will have eternal life.”
But the ones who should have been in the kingdom will be thrown out into the dark. They will cry and grit their teeth in pain.”
