Why should I patiently hope when my strength is gone?

I beg you, God, don't forget! My life is just a breath, and trouble lies ahead.

You will live for ever! Years mean nothing to you. Don't cut my life in half!

In the beginning, LORD, you laid the earth's foundation and created the heavens.

The very thought of food was disgusting to you, and you were almost dead.

All who belong to the LORD, show how you love him. The LORD protects the faithful, but he severely punishes everyone who is proud.

Work hard at whatever you do. You will soon go to the world of the dead, where no one works or thinks or reasons or knows anything.

About this time, Hezekiah got sick and was almost dead. So I went in and told him, “The LORD says you won't ever get well. You are going to die, and so you had better start doing what needs to be done.”

This is what Hezekiah wrote after he got well:

I had sunk down below the underwater mountains; I knew that for ever, I would be a prisoner there. But, you, LORD God, rescued me from that pit.

In fact, we felt sure that we were going to die. But this made us stop trusting in ourselves and start trusting God, who raises the dead to life.
