Those enemies are now dead and can never live again. You have punished them— they are destroyed, completely forgotten.

They are gone and forgotten,

Forgotten here on earth, and with their power broken, they taste sweet to worms.

I will disappear in the grave or vanish from sight like a passing cloud.

Your people became followers of a god named Baal-Peor, and they ate sacrifices offered to the dead.

Bring an end to his family, and from now on let him be a forgotten man.

They are completely deaf, and they can't breathe.

Look at those wicked people! They are knocked down, never to get up again.

LORD God All-Powerful, you are the God of Israel. Punish the other nations and don't pity those terrible and rebellious people.

Our enemies are destroyed completely for all time. Their cities are torn down, and they will never be remembered again.

On that day, when the Israelites saw the bodies of the Egyptians washed up on the shore, they knew that the LORD had saved them.

Good people are remembered long after they are gone, but the wicked are soon forgotten.

We know that we will die, but the dead don't know a thing. Nothing good will happen to them—they are gone and forgotten.

But what will you do when you are fiercely attacked and punished by foreigners? Where will you run for help? Where will you hide your valuables?

Your people will rise to life! Tell them to leave their graves and celebrate with shouts. You refresh the earth like morning dew; you give life to the dead.

I, the LORD All-Powerful, will come to your rescue with a thundering earthquake and a fiery whirlwind.

They destroyed the idols of wood and stone that the people of those nations had made and worshipped.

Someone may say to you, “Go to the fortune-tellers who make soft chirping sounds or ask the spirits of the dead. After all, a nation ought to be able to ask its own gods

The angel said, “Get up and take the child and his mother back to Israel. The people who wanted to kill him are now dead.”

There you will have to worship gods made of wood and stone, and these are nothing but idols that can't see or hear or eat or smell.

These people are the first to be raised to life, and they are especially blessed and holy. The second death has no power over them. They will be priests for God and Christ and will rule with them for a thousand years. No other dead people were raised to life until a thousand years later.
