It staggers and shakes like a drunkard or a hut in a storm. It is burdened down with sin; the earth will fall, never again to get up.

The earth twists and turns in torment, because I have decided to make Babylonia a desert where no one can live, and I won't change my mind.

The LORD said: People of Jerusalem, when you stumble and fall, you get back up, and if you take a wrong road, you turn round and go back.

You have tied my sins around my neck, and they weigh so heavily that my strength is gone. You have put me in the power of enemies too strong for me.

He will retreat to his fortresses in his own country, but on the way he will be defeated and never again be seen.

You made promises in the name of Ashimah, the goddess of Samaria. And you made vows in my name at the shrines of Dan and Beersheba. But you will fall and never get up.

At the sight of the LORD, mountains and hills tremble and melt; the earth and its people shudder and shake.

A powerful angel then picked up a huge stone and threw it into the sea. The angel said, “This is how the great city of Babylon will be thrown down, never to rise again.
