This is a message about Dumah: From the country of Seir, someone shouts to me, “Guard, how much longer before daylight?”

Jacob sent messengers on ahead to Esau, who lived in the land of Seir, also known as Edom.

Jacob told them to say to Esau, “Master, I am your servant! I have lived with Laban all this time,

Our LORD, punish the Edomites! Because the day Jerusalem fell, they shouted, “Completely destroy the city! Tear down every building!”

I even asked the guards patrolling the town, “Have you seen the one I love so much?”

From my guard post, I answered, “Morning will soon be here, but night will return. If you want to know more, come back later.”

The LORD said to me, “Send guards to find out what's going on.

King Zedekiah secretly had me brought to his palace, where he asked, “Is there any message for us from the LORD?” “Yes, there is, Your Majesty,” I replied. “The LORD is going to let the king of Babylonia capture you.”

I also sent prophets to warn you of danger, but when they sounded the alarm, you paid no attention.

The LORD God then said, “The people of Edom are guilty of taking revenge on Judah.

Ezekiel, I have appointed you to stand watch for the people of Israel. So listen to what I say, then warn them for me.

Egypt and Edom were cruel and brutal to Judah, without a reason. Now their countries will become a barren desert,

The LORD said: I will punish Philistia for countless crimes, and I won't change my mind. They dragged off my people from town after town to sell them as slaves to the Edomites.

Israel will conquer Edom and capture the land of that enemy nation.

but don't start a war with them. I have given them the hill country of Seir, so I won't give any of it to you, not even enough to set a foot on.

The seventh region was in the south-central part of Judah's hill country, and it had the following nine towns with their surrounding villages: Arab, Dumah, Eshan, Janim, Beth-Tappuah, Aphekah, Humtah, Kiriath-Arba, which is now called Hebron, and Zior.
