These are difficult and disgraceful times. Our nation is like a woman too weak to give birth, when it's time for her baby to be born.

That same night the LORD sent an angel to the camp of the Assyrians, and he killed one hundred and eighty-five thousand of them. And so the next morning, the camp was full of dead bodies.

This is what God has decided for those who are evil.

Suddenly they disappeared! I looked, but they were gone and no longer there.

The LORD is their defender, and what you do to them, he will do to you.

he breathes out a flood that comes up to the neck. He sifts the nations and destroys them. Then he puts a bridle in every foreigner's mouth and leads them to doom.

You defeated my people. Now you're in for trouble! You've never been destroyed, but you will be destroyed; you've never been betrayed, but you will be betrayed. When you have finished destroying and betraying, you will be destroyed and betrayed in return.

Then you will ask yourself, “Where are those officials who terrified us and forced us to pay such heavy taxes?”

The LORD has decided where they each should live; they will be there for ever, generation after generation.

You will look around for those brutal enemies, but you won't find them because they will be gone.

I won't change my mind. I, the LORD, have spoken. You rejected me and worshipped false gods.

You belonged to me alone, like the first part of the harvest, and I severely punished those who ill-treated you.

But I will take everything that belongs to you, people of Edom, and I will uncover every place where you try to hide. Then you will die, and so will your children, relatives, and neighbours.

They will burn these weapons instead of gathering sticks or chopping down trees. That's how the Israelites will take revenge on those who robbed and abused them. I, the LORD, have spoken.

Then Judah will be his part of the holy land, and Jerusalem will again be his chosen city.

Our LORD, we pray that all your enemies will die like Sisera. But let everyone who loves you shine brightly like the sun at dawn.
