You robbed cities and nations everywhere on earth and murdered their people. Now those who survived will be as cruel to you.

Babylon, you are doomed! I pray the Lord's blessings on anyone who punishes you for what you did to us.

The LORD is their defender, and what you do to them, he will do to you.

You defeated my people. Now you're in for trouble! You've never been destroyed, but you will be destroyed; you've never been betrayed, but you will be betrayed. When you have finished destroying and betraying, you will be destroyed and betrayed in return.

We attack our enemies like swarms of locusts; we take everything that belongs to them.

I was angry with my people. So I let you take their land and bring disgrace on them. You showed them no mercy, but were especially cruel to those who were old.

But if your enemies try to rob or destroy you, I will rob and destroy them, and they will be led as captives to foreign lands.

Babylon has rebelled against me. Archers, take your places. Shoot all your arrows at Babylon.

The Babylonian army destroyed my temple, but soon I will take revenge. Then refugees from Babylon will tell about it in Zion.

Then your chariot horses and the foreigners in your army will refuse to go into battle, and the enemy will carry away everything you treasure.

People of Babylon, you live along the River Euphrates and are surrounded by canals. You are rich, but now the time has come for you to die.

But now, my people will watch, while I repay you for what you did to Zion.

I will punish Marduk, the god of Babylon, and make him vomit everything he gobbled up. Then nations will no longer bring him gifts, and Babylon's walls will crumble.

when an army attacks from the north and brings destruction. Then the earth and the heavens and everything in them will celebrate.

But suddenly, Babylon will fall and be destroyed. I, the LORD, told the foreigners who lived there, “Weep for the city! Get medicine for its wounds; perhaps they will heal.”

You traded with other nations and became more and more cruel and evil. So I forced you to leave my mountain, and the creature that had been your protector now chased you away from the gems.

They will burn these weapons instead of gathering sticks or chopping down trees. That's how the Israelites will take revenge on those who robbed and abused them. I, the LORD, have spoken.

The LORD has said that they don't even know how to do right. They have become rich from violence and robbery.

The day is coming when I, the LORD, will judge the nations. And, Edom, you will pay in full for what you have done.

But you will bring shame on your family and ruin to yourself for what you did to others.

You destroyed trees and animals on Mount Lebanon; you were ruthless to towns and people everywhere. Now you will be terrorized.

For a while I was angry with the nations, but now I am furious, because they have made things worse for Jerusalem and are not the least bit concerned.

Here is what the LORD will do to those who attack Jerusalem: while they are standing there, he will make their flesh rot and their eyes fall from their sockets and their tongues drop out.

They shouted, “Master, you are holy and faithful! How long will it be before you judge and punish the people of this earth who killed us?”
