It happened the next day—all the animals belonging to the Egyptians died, but the Israelites did not lose even one.

Then he killed their cattle with hail and their other animals with lightning.

God gave in to his anger and slaughtered them in a terrible way.

That same night I will pass through Egypt and kill the firstborn son in every family and the firstborn male of all animals. I am the LORD, and I will punish the gods of Egypt.

At midnight the LORD killed the firstborn son of every Egyptian family, from the son of the king to the son of every prisoner in jail. He also killed the firstborn male of every animal that belonged to the Egyptians.

“The LORD's people in Goshen won't be bothered by flies, but your people in the rest of the country will be tormented by them. That's how you will know that the LORD is here in Egypt. This miracle will happen tomorrow.”

People, animals, and crops were pounded by the hailstones, and bark was stripped from trees.

Only Goshen, where the Israelites lived, was safe from the storm.

But the LORD will protect the animals that belong to the people of Israel, and none of theirs will die.

Tomorrow is the day the LORD has set to do this.
