The only things kept in the chest were the two flat stones Moses had put there when the LORD made his agreement with the people of Israel at Mount Sinai, after bringing them out of Egypt.

The crowd solemnly agreed to keep their promise to the LORD, then they celebrated by shouting and blowing trumpets and horns.

“Call my followers together! They offered me a sacrifice, and we made an agreement.”

But they tried to flatter God, and they told him lies;

and they promised, “We will do everything the LORD has commanded.” So Moses told the LORD about this.

Don't you know that we all have God as our Father? Didn't the one God create each of us? Then why do you cheat each other by breaking the agreement God made with your ancestors?

After the reading of the Law and the Prophets, the leaders sent someone over to tell Paul and Barnabas, “Friends, if you have anything to say that will help the people, please say it.”

After this letter has been read to your people, be sure to have it read in the church at Laodicea. And you should read the letter that I have sent to them.

In the name of the Lord I beg you to read this letter to all his followers.

The people said, “The LORD is our God, and we will worship and obey only him.”
