Some time after sunset, when it was very dark, a smoking cooking pot and a flaming fire went between the two halves of each animal.

The man answered, “I was naked, and when I heard you walking through the garden, I was frightened and hid!”

When you were in trouble, I rescued you, and from the thunderclouds, I answered your prayers. Later I tested you at Meribah Spring.

I am everywhere— both near and far,

You were asking for a prophet the day you were gathered at Mount Sinai and said to the LORD, “Please don't let us hear your voice or see this terrible fire again—if we do, we will die!”

When fire blazed from the mountain, and you heard the voice coming from the darkness, your tribal leaders came to me

Moses, go up close and listen to the LORD. Then come back and tell us, and we will do everything he says.
