Jethro was the priest of Midian and the father-in-law of Moses. And he heard what the LORD God had done for Moses and his people, after rescuing them from Egypt.

and because he knew what was happening to his people, he felt sorry for them.

My angel will lead you into the land of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites, and Jebusites, and I will wipe them out.

and I commanded you to release him, so he could worship me. But you refused, and now I will kill your firstborn son.”

When this happens, the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD.

Moses sent messengers from Israel's camp near Kadesh with this message for the king of Edom: We are Israelites, your own relatives, and we're sure you have heard the terrible things that have happened to us.
