When they were in Egypt, they paid no attention to your marvellous deeds or your wonderful love. And they turned against you at the Red Sea.

After the king had finally let the people go, the LORD did not lead them through Philistine territory, though that was the shortest way. God had said, “If they are attacked, they may decide to return to Egypt.”

My people have begged for my help, and I have seen how cruel the Egyptians are to them.

Then the men said, “We hope the LORD will punish both of you for making the king and his officials hate us. Now they even have an excuse to kill us.”

When Moses told this to the Israelites, they were too discouraged and ill-treated to believe him.

You people of Israel are charmed by idols. Leave them alone!

Now let me die! I'd be better off dead.

During the day the LORD sent a scorching wind, and the sun beat down on Jonah's head, making him feel faint. Jonah was ready to die, and he shouted, “I wish I were dead!”

“Jesus from Nazareth, what do you want with us? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are! You are God's Holy One.”

He shouted, “Jesus, Son of God in heaven, what do you want with me? Promise me in God's name that you won't torture me!”
