Good sense is worthy of praise, but stupidity is a curse.

We may think we are doing the right thing, but the LORD always knows what is in our hearts.

Don't boast about yourself— let others praise you.

But Jesus told them: You are always making yourselves look good, but God sees what is in your heart. The things that most people think are important are worthless as far as God is concerned.

And besides, the leaders liked praise from others more than they liked praise from God.

Now, listen to what I have to say about Jesus from Nazareth. God proved that he sent Jesus to you by having him perform miracles, wonders, and signs. All of you know this.

If you serve Christ in this way, you will please God and be respected by people.

Greet Apelles, a faithful servant of Christ. Greet Aristobulus and his family.

To be a real Jew you must obey the Law. True circumcision is something that happens deep in your heart, not something done to your body. And besides, you should want praise from God and not from humans.

You are bound to argue with each other, but it is easy to see which of you have God's approval.

So don't judge anyone until the Lord returns. He will show what is hidden in the dark and what is in everyone's heart. Then God will be the one who praises each of us.

We won't dare compare ourselves with those who think so much of themselves. But they are foolish to compare themselves with themselves.

We pray that you will stop doing evil things. We don't pray like this to make ourselves look good, but to get you to do right, even if we are failures.

Are we once again boasting about ourselves? Do we need letters to you or from you to tell others about us? Some people do need letters that tell about them.

We are not trying once more to boast about ourselves. But we want you to be proud of us, when you are with those who are not sincere and boast about what others think of them.

But in everything and in every way we show that we truly are God's servants. We have always been patient, though we have had a lot of trouble, suffering, and hard times.

Do your best to win God's approval as a worker who doesn't need to be ashamed and who teaches only the true message.

Your faith will be like gold that has been tested in a fire. And these trials will prove that your faith is worth much more than gold that can be destroyed. They will show that you will be given praise and honour and glory when Jesus Christ returns.
