There were so many people living in Judah and Israel while Solomon was king that they seemed like grains of sand on a beach. Everyone had enough to eat and drink, and they were happy.

Everyone living in Israel, from the town of Dan in the north to Beersheba in the south, was safe as long as Solomon lived. Each family sat undisturbed beneath its own grapevines and fig trees.

Solomon ordered thirty thousand people from all over Israel to cut logs for the temple,

He also had eighty thousand workers to cut stone in the hill country of Israel, seventy thousand workers to carry the stones,

The people from the northern tribes of Israel sent for him. Then together they went to Rehoboam and said,

Rehoboam replied, “Come back in three days for my answer.” So the people left.

After the death of the king of Egypt, the Israelites still complained because they were forced to be slaves. They cried out for help,

I was angry with my people. So I let you take their land and bring disgrace on them. You showed them no mercy, but were especially cruel to those who were old.

They pile heavy burdens on people's shoulders and won't lift a finger to help.

We show our love for God by obeying his commandments, and they are not hard to follow.
