Solomon stood facing the altar with everyone standing behind him. Then he lifted his arms towards heaven

Sometimes the crops may dry up or rot or be eaten by locusts or grasshoppers, and your people will be starving. Sometimes enemies may surround their towns, or your people will become sick with deadly diseases.

You know what is in everyone's heart. So from your home in heaven answer their prayers, according to the way they live and what is in their hearts.

Please listen when anyone in Israel truly feels sorry and sincerely prays with arms lifted towards your temple.

And so, I cry out to you in agony and distress.

Why am I discouraged? Why am I restless? I trust you! And I will praise you again because you help me, and you are my God.

and you are my God. I am deeply discouraged as I think about you from where the Jordan begins at Mount Hermon and from Mount Mizar.

You are my mighty rock. Why have you forgotten me? Why must enemies ill-treat me and make me sad?

Pray to me in time of trouble. I will rescue you, and you will honour me.

When you are in trouble, call out to me. I will answer and be there to protect and honour you.

Moses answered, “As soon as I leave the city, I will lift my arms in prayer. When the thunder and hail stop, you will know that the earth belongs to the LORD.

No one else can really know how sad or happy you are.

“No matter how much you pray, I won't listen. You are too violent.

Please pray for those of us who are left alive. The king of Assyria sent his army commander to insult the living God. Perhaps the LORD heard what he said and will do something, if you will pray.

Tell my servants, the priests, to cry inside the temple and to offer this prayer near the altar: “Save your people, LORD God! Don't let foreign nations make jokes about us. Don't let them laugh and ask, ‘Where is your God?’ ”

But if the disease has run its course and only the scars remain, he will say, “You are clean.”

I thought I was swept away from your sight, never again to see your holy temple.

What a miserable person I am. Who will rescue me from this body that is doomed to die?

Don't worry about anything, but pray about everything. With thankful hearts offer up your prayers and requests to God.
