The people of Israel have made the LORD angry by setting up sacred poles for worshipping the goddess Asherah. So the LORD will punish them until they shake like grass in a stream. He will take them out of the land he gave to their ancestors, then scatter them as far away as the River Euphrates.

During Pekah's rule, King Tiglath Pileser of Assyria marched into Israel. He captured the territories of Gilead and Galilee, including the towns of Ijon, Abel-Bethmaacah, Janoah, Kedesh, and Hazor, as well as the entire territory of Naphtali. They used magic and witchcraft and even sacrificed their own children. The Israelites were determined to do whatever the LORD hated.

until the LORD got rid of them, just as he had warned his servants the prophets. That's why the people of Israel were taken away as prisoners to Assyria, and that's where they remained.

I will pull you out of this land I gave you. I will desert this temple where I said I would be worshipped, so that people everywhere will think it is only a joke and will make fun of it.

God will destroy you for ever! He will grab you and drag you from your homes. You will be uprooted and left to die.

if you do wrong and can never be trusted, you will be rooted out.

War and hunger and disease will strike them, until they finally disappear from the land that I gave them and their ancestors.

The LORD will let you and your king be taken captive to a country that you and your ancestors have never even heard of, and there you will have to worship idols made of wood and stone.

But if you and your king do evil, the LORD will wipe you out.
