As God says in the Scriptures, “I will destroy the wisdom of all who claim to be wise. I will confuse those who think they know so much.”

The king's officials in Zoan are foolish themselves and give stupid advice. How can they say to him, “We are very wise, and our families go back to kings of long ago”?

“Egypt will be discouraged when I confuse their plans. They will try to get advice from their idols, from the spirits of the dead, and from fortune-tellers.

So once again I will do things that shock and amaze them, and I will destroy the wisdom of those who claim to know and understand.”

You are King of the nations. Everyone should worship you. No human anywhere on earth is wiser than you.

Your wise men have rejected what I say, and so they have no wisdom. Now they will be trapped and put to shame; they won't know what to do.

This is because God considers the wisdom of this world to be foolish. It is just as the Scriptures say, “God catches the wise when they try to outsmart him.”

Because of Christ we are thought of as fools, but Christ has made you wise. We are weak and hated, but you are powerful and respected.

Friends, I have used Apollos and myself as examples to teach you the meaning of the saying, “Follow the rules.” I want you to stop saying that one of us is better than the other.
